The pyramid-like structure with the sun and the purple background - looks very good, I thought, although perhaps not as serious an image as we might want to present?

For me it's the second image that doesn't display.

Presumably it's the Conlang Flag -- a tower of Babel on a rising sun. If we use it for the cover, I reckon we would explain the flag, its origins & symbolism in the colophon.

So far, the Conlang Flag would be my preference for a cover design. It already has some approval with the Conlang-L community, since that's where we did our voting to select the design. Granted, not everyone on Conlang-L likes (or cares about) the design, and Conlang-L isn't the only conlanging community, but the flag is the only design I know of that's been voted on at all.
Besides, I think it's very attractive and symbolic. :)
Hey, I googled he Babel tower, and found a predominant oil painting, so I made my own stencil kind of vector of it. I;ve uploaded it and will probably expand it with some textures and more elements, could make a nice cover? Any suggestions would be cool. Jay
FWIW my suggestion for cover art would be on the order of Eco's /Serendipities/: not the flag per se as that's not really attractive or known to people outside our community, but a depiction of the Babel tower against a rising sun more artistically could work quite well IMO.
Re. images: yeah they've been erratic. I don't know why. Try reloading.
Also looking for feedback re other art (lower down) - character sketches & icons.
All of this would fall under the discussion about publishing this. Publishers generally like to furnish their own jacket cover art. You can suggest, though. But generally you submit a manuscript first.

I think that is nice, but it really needs colour. At the moment it looks like a mountain - and that is not the image that we want to portray. But yea, with a bit of tiding up I think it would be a good piece of cover art.

I agree with Sai. Borrowed artwork is a real copyright mess. Don't do it. In fact, I will reiterate my former point. I don't think talking about artwork at the moment is timely. As I said, publishers will want to see the manuscript, sans art. Unless you expect to self-publish, assume the publisher has its own artists. If, however, you mean to include samples of our own scripts and/or illustrations of original conlang work and illustrated conlang manuscripts, then that would be relevant--later on. Getting a manuscript together is the first thing on which we should concentrate our efforts.

I agree with this, except that IMO this doesn't detract from the main effort of authorship. The people contributing art are basically just doing that, and I don't see any harm in their continuing to do so.
Per above, I'd prefer to have our own art at least viable, and if the publisher has artists who can do a better job than great. But I would say we shouldn't assume and it'd be better to make this as if we're printing our own from pdf. This also saves time later, 'cause publisher's artists take time too, as does copyediting (thus we have editors on the project), etc.

As long as you understand that the time to propose your coverjacket to a print publisher is AFTER it has been accepted and gone through galleys. If you are working with an on-line publisher, these matters may be more fluid. In working with a print publisher EVERYTHING takes time.

Oh, my vector piece? Hmm, I don't know to what extent it could count as plagarism, or even copyright infringement etc, you're probably right though, I might still add some colours and textures to see how it comes out. I'll post if I create anything else.
