Tonight on PBS (9:00 in DC. Check local listings), *Bill Moyers' Journal and
Exposé* will do a report on Worker Safety based on the *Charlotte Observer's
* recent series on the plight of poultry workers and underreporting of
injuries and illnesses (the subject of the House Education and Labor
Committee's June 19 hearing.) Appearing in the program will be Bob Whitmore,
who was also one of the witnesses at the hearing.
Injury rates reported at America's poultry plants have dropped dramatically
in recent years, and so have workplace safety inspections. Are regulators
rewarding companies for inaccurate reporting of injuries? BILL MOYERS
