Does anyone know whether sun LDAP can authenticate to microsoft AD
server? If it is, is there a procedure somewhere? Any helps are
greatly appreciated.

The short answer is no; Sun Directory Server cannot authenticate to
Microsoft AD. The enterprise edition of Sun Directory Server contains a
component called, "Sun Java System Identity Synchronization for
Windows". This component allows you to synchronize user accounts in AD
with your Sun Directory server, so that the same username and password
is used. It includes an interesting feature whereby if the user changes
their password in AD and the Sun Directory does not have the latest
password, the Sun Directory will re-synch the password in the
background transparent to the user.
