Hello Compass Lovers,

I've been using Compass for website design for quite some time now - mostly in conjunction with WordPress websites.  Over the last month I've been studying Drupal Development and have decided to move my new website design projects primarily into Drupal.  Now I have come to the point where I really need to understand Drupal theming / designing websites with compass in Drupal.

I know several people here in the group use Compass in conjunction with Drupal theme design and I was wondering if anyone here could give me some pointers on a place to start here.  Or perhaps some best practices related to theme design specific to compass and Drupal themes?

More specifically perhaps I could tell you the kind of theme work I like to do and maybe you could suggest a starter theme or a theme that would be a good one to start designing with and give a few reasons why you like it.

I'm not sure how everyone else likes this, but I like to use Susy for my grid.  I find the elastic nature of Susy makes it easier to design most content blocks when taking responsive design into account.  So if anyone currently uses a design stack with SASS[scss]/Compass/Susy/Drupal Theme I would really like to have a peek at it.

Thank you for any input you might have.

Cheers,
-Jeremy

P.S. I just got done configuring a server on AWS using a Micro EC2 Instance running Ubuntu 11.10, To manage my Web Environment I use a combo of Webmin/Virtualmin/Good'ol SSH, phpMyAdmin, and for Drupal I also included Drush/Aegir (with Supervisor for responsiveness).  Everything is working smoothly and much faster than any shared server I've ever used.  Best of all I'm paying nothing for it because the Micro instance is FREE for the first year on AWS right now.  If anyone is interested on how to accomplish any of these other tasks I would be more than happy to point you to the tutorials I used to get it all done.  Just send me an email, and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

try the latest Zen theme. Do mind that subtheming Drupal themes is absolutely different to subtheming Wordpress themes, but Zen has wonderful documentation.

Thanks for the heads up - I've heard Zen is a very popular choice!

I know that these 3 Drupal themes have various levels of Sass/Compass integration:

  - Most popular base theme (though quality is more important than popularity)
  - Lots of Compass integration
  - Default layout method uses the compass plugin called Zen Grids
  - No Susy, but default layout can easily be manually replaced by Susy
  - Disclaimer: I'm the maintainer of Zen and of Zen Grids
- AdaptiveTheme 7.x-3.x - http://drupal.org/project/adaptivetheme
  - Second-most popular base theme (i.e. very good too)
  - Has "sass integration", though I personally haven't had a chance to look at it
  - Not sure if has Susy in it
- Aurora 7.x-1.0-beta - http://drupal.org/project/aurora
  - Newer, so not as popular (yet)
  - Has Susy, I believe

There are likely more Drupal themes with Compass/Susy support that I am not aware of.
