I have been experimenting with the XChangeKeyboardMapping() function, and can't figure out how (or if?) the keysyms_per_keycode arg works. The documentation says that keysyms_per_keycode "Specifies the number of KeySyms per KeyCode." That's not much to go on, but what I gather it means is that you could map a keycode to a sequence of keysyms.... more »

Any way to open a local application/file from X Window event?

I have a bunch of user docs in PowerPoint presentations for an Application that runs in an X window. It would be nice to press a button on the X Window that causes the help docs to open. Is there any support for this? Or, is there support for a clickable URL, etc.? Is there any other approach short of converting docs and putting them... more »

I have an IBM SK-8811 keyboard that has two navigation keys I'd like to redefine. I think they were meant to be used in a browser to do Alt_L-Left and Alt_L-Right. GC create/copy problem

I'm having problems with creating and copying GCs. First up, do I need to create an (initialised) GC before copying into it? Or does XCopyGC actually initialise the structure with defaults for me? Hello I would like to compile and install X, but the dwonload site and all the mirrors have dozens of source tarballs for me to download, just for one revision (R7.4), in many directories. How can I download all sources at once ? In one tarball ? Thank you, Timothy Madden

wmii + gkrellm = no go?

Does anyone know how to use the two together without having gkrellm float around covering wmii's windows? Or, if the above can't be done, do you know a window manager that's as similar as possible to wmii, with which gkrellm can peacefully co-exist? Thanks in advance for your comments.

problem with videoconference device

I'd like to make a presentation and demo during a videoconference. Ideally the presentation will be a full screen acrobat reader display of a PDF file, and the demo a full screen firefox web session. xfig, ghostview, gv pull-down menus stopped working

Hi folks, I've STFW but haven't found an answer, so I hope someone here knows. I can no longer select items with the mouse in the pulldown menus in xfig, ghostview, and gv.
