Help me find the window-manager of my dreams
|
| |
Hi all---
I sat in front of an X head of one sort or another most every day
from about 1992 to 2005, but not since --- until a few months ago.
I've been using Xubuntu (11.10 and now 12.04) without customizing
the UI, so as to get comfortable with the new normal. Now I have
a pretty good idea what I love about the new --- and what I miss... more »

Thunderbird 6 won't generate MapRequest event
|
| |
For some reason only Thunderbird and Firefox refuse to run in my window manager. Thunderbird never generates a MapRequest event. Other GTK application run fine (gimp, gftp, etc). I made some output to stderr to show what is happening.

Using only bitmap fonts?
|
| |
Is it possible to use only bitmap fonts on a semi-recent X11 server
(X.Org X Server 1.4.2 from 2008)?
I've symlinked the 'yes-bitmaps' file from 'conf.available' to 'conf.d',
so the server sees the bitmap fonts.
I'm also trying to "hide" the TTF fonts by renaming those TTF and Type1
directories that X will be so smart as to scan no matter what one wrote... more »

Difference between GLX 3.2 and 3.1 context ?
|
| |
Hi everyone,
I have something strange happening in my code that I can't explain.
Even though it's related to GLX I hope someone can help me with
this ??? So I "copied" some simple code that creates X window and GLX
context to make some GL calls to. When I create a 3.1 GLX context then
my drawing code works fine. But when I create a 3.2 nothing is drawn... more »

Contraining a window position (X,Y) in X
|
| |
Hello Xers,
Got a simple problem for which I'm trying to find a good solution. I have two applications running on 1 workstation. This workstation is configured with two displays. What I'm trying to accomplish is to constrain the positions of the windows from one of my apps to one of the displays. No problem figuring out the displayable area, the problem I'm having is enforcing it.... more »

Modify Compose table?
|
| |
Hi. I'm in the US and I have a plain US keyboard. I have found that
when I need to type characters beyond ASCII the Compose (aka MultiKey)
method is by far the most convenient way to do so. But now I have a
need to type things which are not in the Xorg compose repertoire,
apparently [1]. So my question is, are the composable combinations in... more »

running xmodmap on startx
|
| |
Hello
I've got some custom keymappings in .Xmodmap such as mapping the caps lock key
to control, and the command key on a macbook to alt etc. Now, I'm pretty sure
my .Xmodmap file used to be applied automatically when I started the X server
(through startx, no display managers), but it's not happening any more, or my... more »

XtAddCallback - incompatible pointer type
|
| |
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to X Windows but quite fascinated by Motif (Lesstif on my
GNU/Linux system).
As every beginner, I started from a very simple example found here:

Xorg fails to load Type 1 font handler. FreeBSD 7.1 i386; Xorg 1.4.2
|
| |
I have a problem during Xorg initialization: Type 1 font handler fails to
load because of an undefined symbol. This means, inter alia, that I don't
get a usable FireFox browser screen, which is decidedly unpleasant.
Google searches don't yield anything that seems really relevant. If this
is an FAQ, I sure haven't been able to find it, and will appreciate... more »
