Can someone shed any light on why the taskbar, which is set to auto
hide, stops hiding as soon as I run a program from the Menu button. I
can run a program from the taskbar itself without affecting the hiding
behaviour, eg Firefox or Dolphin. Starting a program which is not on
the taskbar results in the bar staying visible and taking up valuable
real estate.

Is there a workaround or fix?

Which version of KDE4?
I don't myself use this feature as I have space enough to have two panels
visible at the same time.

If you haven't. try to upgrade to kde 4.7.0, the only drawback this far I have
found is that you need to run kmenuedit manually.

KDE 4.6.0 release 6.

I am using OpenSUSE 11.4 and it doesn't seem as if that is an
available update as yet. I'll investigate further. It is probably
somewhere in the repositories.

I could probably run several panels but I prefer a clean desktop so
that portions of my wallpapers don't get hidden.
