xmotd is a utility program for sysadmins, that periodically checks
whether one or more files have been modified and displays them if they
have.

xmotd has many features that can be customized for your particular
site. For example, you can replace the default logo, that appears in
the top left corner, with your company logo; the title text can also
be customized. xmotd can "watch" a single file, more than one file or
a whole directory where files are added or removed. If you have users
that never logout, xmotd can be configured run as a daemon that
periodically wake-ups and checks files for modifications. xmotd can be
run by xdm, CDE or startx (and from ~/.login when your users call-in
vial dial-up). xmotd can also display HTML messages.

What's new with this release?

o xmotd checks whether another copy of itself is already running and
exits if there is.

o xmotd now groks the Editres protocol (i.e. X resources may be
edited via editres(1)).

o -tail option allows the end of files to be watched; the text will
scroll to the bottom when xmotd pops up.
