CompuVest: beware!

Well, it had to happen sometime: I am probably the victim of fraud. On
February 22, I ordered one memory chip, item no m-ed64u, from Compuvest
<http://www.intermultiware.com> or <http://www.compuvest.com> and paid
for it through Western Union. This was confirmed by Compuvest, under
confirmation number 02212000-621404, with an e-mail sent on February 24.
After several attempts to get more information, Compuvest sent me
another e-mail claiming that my order was shipped on February 28. No
tracking number was given, and my order couldn't be found in Compuvest's
on-line order status system. I began to get worried...
Two weeks later: still nothing, even though the shipment should have
been here by now. I sent Compuvest a 'final notice' to inform me about
the status of my order: by e-mail (several times) and fax. No reply...
From the first moment on I thought it was odd that Compuvest doesn't
accept credit card payments for International Orders, but now I think I
know why that is. When you pay by credit card, you always have the
chance to pull back your payment when the goods aren't delivered. The
Western Union payment method means that the risk is entirely yours. If
the company you order from doesn't deliver, you just try and get your
money back!
For the record: at this point I can't be entirely sure that Compuvest
runs a fraudulent operation. There is a small chance, getting smaller by
the day, that the shipment is indeed underway. But their lack of
communication suggests otherwise. Luckily only a small sum of about $100
is involved, but I think it would be a good thing to warn you about
Compuvest. The least you should do is to never pay them beforehand, but
only after receiving a bill or with a credit card.
If there are any further developments in this 'case', I will inform you.

I always use popular site when ordering via the Inet. Try www.pczone.com,
www.pcconnection.com, or www.cdw.com. These are all mainstream companies
who won't rip you! Remember that saving a buck cost a whole bunch
sometimes!
