USB mouse receivers - common protocols?

Not sure if this is the best place to post a question on USB mice, but
best I could find...

I have a Targus wireless optical mouse bought for my wife's laptop a
couple of yrs ago, but the USB plugin receiver has been misplaced. Does
anyone know if the comm protocols used by mice these days are
standardized enough that it might work with a receiver for another
wireless mouse?
