Ultra 27 / OpenSolaris 06/2009. Keyboard layout randomly changes
|
| |
I'm getting a bit fed up with this. Every now and then (few days), the monitor is displaying different characters to what I intend typing. Shift-3 displays a #, not a £, as I expect on my UK keyboard Shift-2 displays @ rather than ", as I expect on my UK keyboard. I've got no idea what starts this annoying behavior. Logging out and back in... more »

Solaris kernel - runs on CPU0, or all CPUs?
|
| |
It was old unix knowledge I received a long long time ago that said that the Solaris kernel ran only on CPU0. Nowadays, when I look deep at a Solaris 10 x86 system, I'm not so sure I am seeing that any more. For example, we have an application that is extremely SYS heavy (unoptimized code) that calls time-related functions a lot, which... more »

Solaris 10 CDs wanted
|
| |
Greetings, I have a Sparc box with a SCSI CD drive attached that I would like to update. To my horror I found out that I can no longer download CD ISO images from SUN any more. Anybody know of a URL where I might be able to obtain Solaris 10 update 5 disks or images thereof? I gather this is the last update that was available in CD-sized chunks. My attempts to... more »

Anyone using 'extra' mouse buttons?
|
| |
Bit of a shot in the dark here, but is anyone using a fancy new mouse (in my case, the Logitech MX620) with Solaris 10 (Sparc), and getting the various accessory buttons to work? I'd love to get the side buttons (forward and backward) functioning, if possible. Cheers! Colin

When did Solaris become Windows?
|
| |
OK, rant mode on. Tonight I went to yank a drive out of my system, and replace it with a quieter one. The only thing on the old drive was swap space, which is part of my regular boot environment. 1) swap -d /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s1 2) (yank drive, put in new one) 3) go to partition the new drive. "You can't label the drive, because I... more »
