Porting from one server to another

Currently got some apps running on an old Sunfire V240 which we are
replacing with a T2000.
Is there any easy way to port directly onto the new server? For
instance, ufsdump/ufsrestore onto the new disks.
I'd imagine this would cause problems booting the new server (since
its different hardware)? I vaguely remember there is a way around
this?
Or is complete re-install easier?

Not got a great deal of experience with zones but will take a look.
So far, Iv'e tried:-
1. flar create on old system, cd install /flar on new one - doesnt
work since they are different architectures.

Hi,
ofcourse running on S10 or what ever your V240 is running and then
making a zone would be neat but have you considered and tried just
moving the app to the T2000 on S10/S11?
To move to S11 would make things nicer if you would need to move to new HW.

Yes, v240 is already running S10.
My understanding was that we could create a zone and run it on the
T2000 as non-global zone? Not sure we really want to get into this.
Of course, other option is to just install S10 on the T2000 and re-
install the app but thats a longer way really.

flars across platforms, but there's something goofy with the how
the flar is created. You may need to specify cpio instead of pax,
even though it should default to cpio. Just try both.

to a different hardware platform, but just cloning a system disk (dump /
restore / install boot block etc) can give problems with things like the
ethernet hardware address, device configuration etc which will have changed.
Probably much less hassle to reinstall, then you are sure it's done
right :-)...

FWIW migrating an existing sun4u system image to sun4v (the global zone, not p2v into a container) is now documented (and presumably supported).
