I'm trying out Solaris 10 on a dual proc. Ultra 60 with OBP 3.23.

I installed SUNPCI II (733Mhz) card with SUNWspci2 version 2.32 (last
version I believe).

Unfortunately, it will not load the sunpci drivers and doesn't update the
/etc/devlink.tab file.
"Can't find a sundrv2100 driver" or some similar message.

I'm thinking the Openboot may need a rev update.

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks...George

That the needed drivers are not included in the sunpci software package
because its way older den solaris 10?

I have seen things you lusers would not believe.
I've seen Sun monitors on fire off the side of the multimedia lab.
I've seen NTU lights glitter in the dark near the Mail Gate.
All these things will be lost in time, like the root partition last
week. Time to die.

SUNWspci2 is not supported on Solaris 10 and there is no software version
that has the required kernel modules for Solaris 10.

Unsupported most likely, but the SunPCi II 2.3.2 installation works fine
for me on a SunBlade 100 on Solaris 10. It won't work out of the box
though, you will need to copy
/opt/SUNWspci2/drivers/solaris/sunpcidrv.290 to
/opt/SUNWspci2/drivers/solaris/sunpcidrv.2100, and
/opt/SUNWspci2/drivers/solaris/sunpcidrv.290.64 to
/opt/SUNWspci2/drivers/solaris/sunpcidrv.2100.64
And then re-run /opt/SUNWspci2/drivers/solaris/sunpcload.
This fails in the post-install script. Then you should be able to run
sunpci as usual...

Don't blame me if it doesn't work, use at your own risk...

The software is not supported on Solaris 10; you will need to copy
the S9 driver and use that.

Why?

Expressed in this posting are my opinions. They are in no way related
to opinions held by my employer, Sun Microsystems.
Statements on Sun products included here are not gospel and may
be fiction rather than truth.

If SUNWspci2 is pkgadded on Solaris 10 system the finish script
tries to attach required kernel modules. After it fails for
obvius reasons it suggests that OBP might need an upgrade.
Which is wrong.

## Executing postinstall script.
Warning: /etc/devlink.tab not updated correctly
Perhaps the system OBP needs to be updated
pkgadd: ERROR: postinstall script did not complete successfully

Installation of <SUNWspci2> partially failed.

Thanks guys...Most helpful.
I have a few things to try.

Is SUNWspci3 supported in Solaris10?

Time for a new board anyway.

Maybe there isn't enough desktop revenue to justify continued support
the kluged up SunPCI
solution. It's a novelty at best.

I respectfully disagree with your last sentence: my SUnPCi card has been a
boon for me. On the rare occassions that I need to run some WIndoze Sw,
e.g., Simply Accounting, it does great, and saves me valuable desk real
estate.

I'd MUCH rather use something like SunPCi than buy another box, which
only gets powered on a couple of times per month.

I develop software that runs on Solaris and Windows, and my
Ultra 60 + SunPCi were a very productive development setup.

My current workstation is a Blade 2000, and for Windows I have
a 2.5GHz laptop - but if I can lay my hands on a SunPCi 3, I'd
change in a jiffy.
