I'm fascinated that such is possible at all.
The main solaris installer runs only within Solaris, which is using its
own drivers to mount data partitions. I don't see how it could be using
any type of information that grub set up. In addition, the installer OS
isn't going to be able to see into the XP's NTFS filesystem to do it on

The only difference from PC memory of the time is that
U5/U10 needed 5V versions. Mind you, that stops it being
interchangable (or even going into the socket as the

Dig was introduced in newer versions of bind. I'd not be surprised if
Solaris 7 didn't have it.

The htdig package does not seem to include the dig utility from BIND. And
SUNWcsu, where all the other BIND utilities are packaged in Solaris 7 11/99,
does not have dig.

And if, as the sunfreeware page says, zlib and gcclib or gcc are
installed, dig will work for the original poster.

It's an important security patch to a daemon. No drivers. No kernel
patches. I am, frankly, baffled that Sun thought that it needed a reboot.
Do they think that we don't know how to restart daemons? I mean, sure,

You should have seen the RAM that went into the SS10/SS20 boxes. Very
huge, very non-standard (not that there were all that many standards
back then anyway), but at the end of the lifecycle, very very cheap.
Various Sun machines over the years have had some pretty specialized
RAM. The stuff now-a-days is pretty tame in comparison.

Not a bit of it! pkgchk is present and works the same way in Solaris 9
and 8 at least. I can't test the functionality of it before that, but the
command existed at least as early as Solaris 2.4 (according to Sun's online
man pages). Realistically, I think that it's been part of the System V
packaging model since SysVR4, so long ago.

Well thats not cheap! For 512 MB i get a complete Blade 1000 on Ebay
(70 Euro last time).
But you can add normal PC Server RAM, which was the PC133-ECC that the
blade 100 requires.
Only the U5/U10 had special RAM.
