Hi,

Have exported solaris 10 dvd sparc with nfs.
Can I install using this dvd by booting a client box with a sol 10 cd?
Or do I have to set up jumpstart?

TIA

bare metal provision? could well be wrong but i don't think so.
jumpstart, while seeming a little complicated at first glance really
isn't but it's prob'ly not worth setting up an install/boot server for
a single system. if the target system had a dvd drive it'd be
tempting to just install it off that.

if it was a live upgrade to an existing install, then yeah. you can
(just finished doing that to a bunch of cluster nodes)

just my opinion of course

I think you can, once you have entered the system information there's an
install media location question. It'll only take five minutes to try.

You cam also use the setup_install_server to setup a boot server and use
"boot net" on the client to boot off the install server.

Hi,

Setup a jumpstart server is very easy it has just been convered in
comp.sys.sun.hardware, look for "DVD drive Blade 1000"

Yes, I do this occasionally. It works. ISTR you have to use
the IP address to mount the filesystem.
(More accurately, I lofi mount the iso image and export that.)

That's even better. It will automatically find the install media
over NFS.

Have managed to set up jumpstart for booting and can make an install
from exported dvd - great.
