You might be able to pick up a used postscript one for that. I would
certainly try to get postscript, rather than a parallel port injet, as
its a lot easier to use a postscript printer. Ghostscript can be used to
convert PS to whatever the inkjet needs, but it is far from an optimal
solution.
What technology did you have in mind? Laser? Inkjet? Impact? Do you
need color or is black ink/toner sufficient for your needs?
Inkjet printers can be found for almost nothing but the ink costs
serious money. Ink doesn't keep too well; the solvent tends to
evaporate, leaving you a colored solid. . . .
Laser is expensive but it's fast and quiet. I've been using a Laserjet
4000 for about ten years now! I'm on my second toner cartridge! I have
a JetDirect card in it and can print from any computer on my network.
I don't think anybody uses impact printers any longer but I could be
wrong. . . .
Parallel printers may also be hard to find. Most newer computers and
printers support USB and it's cheaper! Have you considered getting a
USB card for your computer?
