how to get snapshot of CPU load

Hi, We could get the CPU load infomation by vmstat command, and CPU load average of 1, 5, 15 minutes by table(2) in C program. Is there a function we could call to get the snapshot of real-time CPU load in C program? Thanks a lot! Catherine

I have a customer with an ancient Alphaserver 1000A 4/266 They've been wanting to replace it for some time, now, the brown smelly stuff has hit the air movement device.
