Looking for something functional

I'm obsessed with old technology, especially technology from the
1970's that rivals some of todays computer power. I had some family
who used to work for Cray before SGI bought them. My aunt was a chip
debugger and my grandma was a security officer for their Chippewa
Falls campus.

Anyway, I would like to find a functional Cray machine, preferably
older. I don't have billions, millions, or even thousands to spend,
but I want to give one a home. I'm asking you, the comp.unix.cray
community to help me find one. I live near Madison, WI, a couple of
hours south of Chippewa Falls.

Please respond to this post or email me, [jamie][at]
[radioactiverussian][dot][com]. Thanks again!

Not likely.
No Freon. Not that era.

Well I think Nathan M. used his MS money for a non-working 1 in his
living room to which he's going to add #2 Babbage difference engine in a year.

You can probably still buy a 1 board from Tony Cole or the National
Atomic Museum in ABQ for a few $100. You just have to work a bit to
find Tony's web site. Other more confusing links will have higher page rank.

Unlikely that you'll find anything really "interesting" but there's plenty
of EL9x/J9xx machines around. Those are air cooled so you have a chance of
having a working machine, if thats what you want. If you just want a piece
of nostalgia then Cray 2 & 3 boards come up one ePay occasionaly. The 3
boards are truly something to behold. In a sense it's a shame the machine
got parted out but then it was highly unlikely to ever work.

Regards,
James

was unlikely?
If Gombosi were still here, he'd take you to task. He ran on the thing.

Perhaps, I could have phrased that slightly better ;-0

"unlikely to ever work _again_"
