Back in the old (pre x.org?) days, you used to be able to speed up a
mouse by using a resolution in the config file. I only use about a 6x6
inch area on my desk, and I want to cover the whole screen without
constantly picking up the mouse.

The xorg.conf manpage implies that you can provide only the parts of an
xorg.conf file where you want to change something from the defaults. I
did an Xorg -configure to get a vanilla xorg.conf, then copied out the
mouse section which I put as /etc/X11/xorg.conf and fiddled with
AccelerationProfiles. I don't see any change in the mouse, or any
indication in Xorg.0.log after restarting X that it's even reading my file.

How can I speed this up?

I still haven't figured this out. I found that there's a program called
xset, and you should be able to do something like xset m 10 4 where m is
for mouse, 10 is the acceleration factor, and 4 is the movement
threshold in pixels. It works on my Debian box, but not under OpenBSD.

I'm using fvwm, not one of the massive window managers that has its own
mouse settinngs. I tried it with fvwm under Debian too.

xset works in OpenBSD for things like turning on keyboard LEDs but not
for speeding up the mouse. I run 1920x1080 resolution so I *really*
don't want a 1:1 ratio.

Hi,

I have no idea how to solve this, but you may want to try the mailing
lists; they have much more traffic.

Sorry for not being more helpful.
