So 6.0 has been out for a bit: is it worth upgrading to or should one
wait for 6.1, or maybe stick with 5.x ?

No issues at all, 6.0 seems very solid.

Installed it over the past weekend on a very old backup
system replacing the OS that was on there. Working out much
better than what I had. The 64 bit time_t was my incentive :)
