ftpd setup time?

Hello,
FreeBSD's ftp demon apparently still does DNS lookups os some sorts when
accepting a connection. (and maybe more - auth/ident comes to mind)
Is there any way to get rid of that in an orderly fashion without
affecting any other part of the OS, and without mjaor config effort
(i.e. no workarounds via jail and similar creative stuff)?
Ideally I'd like to recompile it with an option or a patch, or have
a config setting somewhere.
Any ideas?
