adaptor and a 4GB IDE drive and the only way I can get older macs to
even see it is to format it HFS in a Tiger machine using a USB
enclosure.
At first, I tried the native Apple formatting tools:
HD SC that comes with A/UX 3.1.1 crashes
All versions of patched/unpatched Drive Setup just say <unsupported
drive> and will not initialize the drive.
So I gave up trying to get this drive into my IIci, since it appears
all the A/UX formatting utils are too ancient.
Just for fun I tried it in my power mac 7500 w/sonnet G3 400MHz. Even
OS 9 would not initialize the drive. The install disk doesn't even see
it.
Formatting HFS or HFS+ in Tiger over USB makes the drive usable in OS
9, but you cannot install O9 to the drive. xpostfacto 4 thinks the
drive is bootable, but trying to install OS X Jag, Panther fails on
boot with "can't open scsi-int:@4:10" (the IDE-SCSI bridge is jumpered
to SCSI ID 4)
I thought maybe the drive was too big, but creating a small 1 GB
partition and repeating everything above didn't make any difference.
What do I have to do to get A/UX on IIci or 9.X or even xpostfacto on
PM7500 to boot from this drive?
I had high hopes for this SCSI-IDE bridge because somebody got it
working in an Atari:

Maybe it's the adaptor? I use off-brand drives in my systems (mostly
Seagates) without Apple ROMs and patched Drive Setup works just fine
with that , but the drives I use are real SCSI, not IDE through an
adapter.
