Problem with Console and graphics 7029-6c3 and AIX 6.1

Has anyone else run into this problem? Typically, I use a serial port connection to start my 7029-6c3 pseries system ( sms, etc) which prompts me to "select 0 for a system console" and AIX 6.1 boots. Which debian based linux distro supports power4+ systems? Typically I use Linux Mint but don't think they have a port for power. I enjoy AIX but may also install a 64 bit Linux on my RS6000 as well. Please recommend a Linux 64 bit distro that also supports KDE v4 and Gnome. PS - Please list a download link so I can burn a Linux 64 bit iso image.... more »

Hi - hope some of you can help me with some thoughts on this. We have an old RS/6000 Model 595 running AIX v4.2. The unit still runs some old ERP system, and I am curious as to what options we have. Any risk with running chvg -t on live system

I need to add a 300GB volume to a volume group. extendvg tells me I need to increase the number of PPs per PV using chvg -t. What bothers me is that the message says to use the command to "attempt to change" this value. Researching it, it looks like that wording is there because there are some situations where it might not be possible, but... more »

AIX 5.3: access existing file gives ENOENT

I ran truss on a running java program, and noticed that the access system call was returning "Err#2 ENOENT" for existing files, files that were succesfully "accessed" earlier in the same program, and later on. Is there an AIX command or another way to manually turn down, turn off, and turn on CPU and power supply fans in a 7029-6c3 pseries 615 system? Unfortunately, The system will not boot into AIX without fans ( which sound like jet engines). With fans removed, the system only boots into sms. FYI, the 7029-6c3 system seems fine with the fans... more »

I've got an IBM RS 6000 7025 F50 which is running AIX 4.3 or there abouts (not sure of the exact version. It might be 4.3.3.) What's the latest version of AIX I can stick on this machine? I was given a set of AIX 5.1 CD-R's some time back, but I've seen a set of 8 CDs for 5.3 on eBay for next to nothing.... more »
