Just received my RS6000 44P via ebay. System is said to be loaded with
AIX 5.3.

My first IPL. I have never worked on an AIX system. Get nothing on the
monitor and after the IPL runs for 10 minutes the front panel settles
down to: 4B27 11C4 P1-C1 I am new at this, why am I not getting a
login?

I connected my PC monitor to what looks like a video port on an
expansion card. My PS2 style keyboard is connected. The LAN cable is
connected to an RJ45 port that is close to the keyboard and I guess
printer port.

The system came with two keys hanging from the back of the box. The key
is not in the key lock on the back of the system. What is that key lock
for?

thanks,

-Steve

Because it is checkstopped. You'll want to go to
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/v5r3/topic/com.ibm.pseries.doc/hardware_docs/hardware.htm
and pick your 44P model (170 or 270) and download the available
hardware documentation. Given that the unit was shipped to you, I'd
guess that one or more items were jostled loose in shipping, you'll
probably want to remove the major assemblies (like the processor cards)
and reseat them.

Did the eBay seller fully test the system and guarantee that it was in
working order prior to shipment?

that did it. good step by step instructions in those manuals. pulling
the CPU card and reseating it did the trick.

thank you,
