Does it do any good to report spam messages to google Groups?

Short answer: No. Google collects info on both posters and their content
via groups, and the more info, the better.

But even Eternal September has been seeing more spam. Why they don't
immediately filter any messages from user Wholesaler I'll never know.
Thunderbird seems not to allow dedicated news reader features like
filtering, but getting a free NNTP service (as in, what company would
fuss about free) solves most of the probs. Getting a dedicated news
reader would solve the rest.

I was quite surprised to see this question, because I don't remember
ever seeing any spam in this group. However, a quick trip to Google
Groups showed that there is a certain amount that normally never
reaches me, but it's still moderate compared with what some groups get.
Apparently my reader / news server combination (Unison /
News.Individual.NET) is doing a good job.
