Greetings!

Has anyone been doing conversions from Interleaf to either SGML or XML?
I am looking for some advice on the best way to go about such a
project.

I have been reading through old posts on this list and found lots of
really great information and tips.

We are inbetween systems and what I am suposed to do is to convert
interleaf documents; both in standard IAF format and sgml-tagged, and
PDFs inte either XML or SGML.

My question is: what are the rough outline of such a conversion
project?
Do I work in Interleaf and use it's support for XML/SGML or do I export
the interleaf files to some other format? And if so wich format?

Any pointers on strategies and software will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Morning Lisa...

What version of Interleaf did you use to create your Interleaf
documents? Did your SGML tagging come from Interleafs
separate SGML product? Do you actually have a choice of
output, i.e., SGML or XML? Unless you are actually required
to work with SGML, I would opt for XML over SGML. I am
only familiar with Interleaf 4/5/6 and perhaps there is a provision
for PDF and XML output from a later version (after Interleaf was
sold). I seem to recall a previous reference for Quicksilver to
output to PDF. There are a number of PDF to XML converters
available both in software and service bureaus.

So, if I were tackling the project I would license a copy of Quicksilver,
convert all of your old documents to PDF/XML. Having said that,
do you have a XML Parser in mind? Also keep in mind that XML
creates some huge output files. I was tasked to save some FormFlow
documents in XML format and a single page form created a file that
when printed was 1/2 inch high.

As much as I hated Framemaker as an Interleaf consultant, Adobe
offers a suite of products (they bought Framemaker and FormFlow),
that might help you decide. Your real challenge will be the graphics
in your Interleaf documents.

You might want to contact Randyl in this group. He might have some
other suggestions.

Regards...Bob

Have you considered the QuickSilver Implementor's Toolkit? You can
develop an Interleaf to XML application using their own tool.
