I have a Z-120 I picked up cheap. The case is pretty much trashed,
there is major rust in the bottom metal pan, the floppy drive was
rusted up, rust on parts of the hard drive etc. I disassembled it and
after some work have the electrontics working. I've removed the
majority of the rust from the harddrive, I believe it was in a HUMID
environment but not under water itself.

Current status:
It had several failed DRAMs on the motherboard, these have been
replaced and it now passes the POST.
It now boots the OS from the harddrive and has run well for several
days at a time.
I installed a different floppy drive and have been able to format a
floppy, copy files to and from it.
I had to replace several keyswitches in the keyboard and believe the
keyboard to be fully operational now.
The switching power supply is working though the metal case is rusty,
I buffed a lot of the rust off.
The monitor works fine, the back of the case was damaged, the video
intensity POT is bent but works.

I've thought for some time as to what I want to do with the system,
perhaps replace the case or part it out? Perhaps transplant it into a
different case? As it's sat untouched for some time in my shop I've
decided I will offer up the parts to those who fully apprechate the
Heathkit systems (I tend to lean towards 8080/Z-80 SBCs and more
generic S-100 stuff myself).

I paid $40 for the system and I'm not looking to profit here, I'm most
interested in trades. Old Logic / ICs, S-100 stuff, 8080/Z-80 SBCs,
E&L stuff, NIXIE stuff etc. You can checkout my profile on EBAY
(neilbii) to see that I have 100% positive feedback and am a straight
shooter. My goal is to see this H/W go to good homes.

I'm considering keeping the S-100 floppy controller and S-100 hardrive
controller / drive although I realize that with these working they may
be better used by a Heathkit collector.

I think the Z-100 series is a great computer! I have a few myself:

http://www.retrotechnology.com/restore/z_repair.html

And these are great for both 8-inch AND 5.25 inch floppy work. The
Zenith MS-DOS and CP/M and diagnostic software, supports both kinds of
drive at the same time. I strongly suggest you keep this system for
the 8-inch development you talked about doing, in your recent
comp.os.cpm post, where you said you wanted a CP/M 2.2 on 8-inch
diskette, for developing your own version on another S-100 system. I
offer a set of Z-100 5.25-inch system diskettes on my Z-100 Web page

There are two different motherboards, which one to you have? the older
one is 85-2653, and the new one is 85-2806 ***I THINK*** (Hey, I'm doing
this as a guy in his 60's who is trying to remember stuff that happened
almost 30 years ago). The later one is better.

Hi,

I have some Z-100 hulks, including a Z-120 case if wanted.
Post here.

I'd like to get a replacement plastic front panel (bezel) for the
all-in-on dual half-height floppy disk version. This is a panel that
goes on the right side of the CRT, it's about 5" wide and 10" tall.

Hi,

Apologies, when I checked, the Z-120 seems to be only
power supply, main board, bottom pan, and some wires.
I'll look for what I thought I had, which was dead but more
complete.

Found the other all-in-one, and it has the half-height floppies.
A bit uglier than I thought, but okayish.

In article <h6vrm5$pup$1...@news.eternal-september.org>, Watzma...@neo.rr.com
says...

I have a couple of 8" drives in a case w/ps. I haven't spun them up in years,
but they have been stored fairly well. (They are Siemens DS/DD drives, and
one did stop working). I also have the service manual for them (and lots of
8" floppies...).

I also have a 6809 S-100 card which I never got to work. I'd be happy to send
that to whoever wants it (I think I can find the manuals w/ROM listing).
