Did anyone ever do the following:

ST CONSOL
0 USER/PW
0 @@CONS

just to see what would happen?
(Of course, not on a production system).

I was at an 1100 site when one of the engineers came in with a new piece
of hardware for the console.

So, he went to the machine and typed "DN CONS0"

0- Are you sure? Y/N

0 Y

He made the substitution, and then the shift leader said? "Now what?"

The engineer went very pale.

Eventually, we took pity on him. We had some local code that allowed
facilities keyins from a card deck.

So we quickly punched up a deck including UP CONS0 and stuck it in the
reader.

Hahaha. I think our FE's got exasperated with me at times. From time to time I'd make the system behave strangely, just to tease the operators.

Once, I wrote a quick MASM program to do an ER COM$ to put a message on the console with no Run-id - so it looked like an EXEC message.

I formatted it like an EQPCHK (I used that, actually), and made it look like it came from the IPCU (IP cooling unit), with something alluding to a problem with FLWMTR.

I wandered into the computer room after a few minutes, to find the local FE looking over the chiller, trying to find a flow-meter, with the rest of the staff looking on with some concern. They were actually relieved to find out it was a prank.
