2ND EUROMICRO WORKSHOP ON
PARALLEL AND DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING
University of Malaga, Spain
January 26-28th 1994
-----------------------------------------------------------
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Parallel processing is a crucial strategic element in the
race for sustainable teraflop performance across a wide
range of computing applications. Major advances in parallel
and distributed processing technology over the last decade
have resulted in a wide range of hardware architectures and
a host of parallel languages. However, as with serial
processing in the 70's, parallel computing has entered its
own software crisis; innovative techniques are now required
to provide an effective engineering life-cycle for parallel
systems. This workshop, the second organised by Euromicro,
aims to provide a forum whereby users and developers of
distributed computer technology can present and discuss
latest research results in the quest for usable parallel
computers.
The workshop will include keynote sessions with invited
eminent speakers; sessions for open forum presentations;
group and plenary discussion sessions; and full paper
presentation sessions covering a wide range of topics in:
parallel computer architecture and software methodology;
parallel system performance engineering; and distributed
application modelling.

Travel
The Workshop will be held at the Hotel Melia Costa del Sol,
which is situated 15 kms west of the centre of Malaga.
Malaga international airport is 13 kms away from the city
centre, and 7 kms from the Hotel Melia. A taxi from Malaga
airport to the Hotel Melia costs about 1200 Ptas. You can
also take the train from Malaga airport to Torremolinos
(100 Ptas), and then walk for about 10 minutes to the Hotel
Melia.
Climate
Malaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol, which is sunny
most of the time. The climate is usually warm and pleasant
at the end of January in Malaga; the average daytime
temperature is 170C.
Currency
The unit of currency in Spain is the Peseta. At the end of
September the exchange rate was 1 US$ = 126 Ptas .
Registration
Kindly fill in the enclosed form. Please ensure that all
relevant details are completed and return the form together
with the appropriate fees to the Euromicro office as soon
as possible. The registration fees are quoted in Dutch
guilders (Dfl).

A hotel reservation form is included. Please SEND OR FAX
THE BOOKING FORM BEFORE JANUARY 1ST 1994, DIRECTLY TO THE
TRAVEL AGENCY.
Other Events and Attractions
Before and after the workshop you can take part in tourist
events in Andalucia. There are about a hundred golf
courses in the Costa del Sol. You may ski in the Sierra
Nevada mountains (two hours drive from the Hotel Melia),
where the 1995 World Ski Championship will be celebrated.
The Travel Agency has planned two tours for the Workshop
participants: Nerja-Frigiliana and Alhambra-Granada.
Prices and conditions are specified in the Accommodation
Registration Form.
Nerja - Frigiliana: Tuesday, January 25th.
Depart by coach at 9am from Hotel Melia, taking the coast
road through several villages to reach the picturesque town
of Nerja. Visit the impressive prehistoric caves and take
lunch in Meson Toledano. Spend the afternoon in the
beautiful Andalusian village of Frigiliana.
Granada - Alhambra: Saturday, January 29th.
Depart by coach at 8.30am from Hotel Melia, making a short
stop in Riofrio en route to Granada. Visit the Alhambra
fortress, famous monument to Arabic architecture; the
Charles V Palace; and gardens of the Generalife, enjoying
panoramic views of the city, the Sierra Nevada mountains
and the historic quarters of Sacromonte and Albaicin. Lunch
in restaurant Alixares, and spend some free time in
Granada.
