Solaris 2.5.1 CDE question

A co-worker is trying out CDE from Solaris 2.5.1. While he doesn't seem
to mind too much, he says he hasn't figured out yet how to convince
dtterm to recognize the function key values he is trying to set. Apparently
(and I haven't seen it myself) instead of getting vt220 like function key
escape sequences he is getting strings of "function1", "function2" or
some similar wording.

Is there somewhere on the web where I can find out configuration details like
this?
