69.20 Netra Internet Server

Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) unveiled a major new
product line aimed at serving personal computer networks.
SMCC's new Netra(TM) server line -- including the Netra
Internet Server and the Netra System Management Server -- was
designed to meet a major market need for servers to support
sophisticated network services beyond the printer- and
file-sharing servers that populate the market. SMCC's powerful,
easy-to-use Netra servers are optimized and tuned for key
services. These new servers have another compelling advantage
when compared to existing PC LAN servers: they provide a
complete solution that includes all the system software,
application software and administration tools pre-installed and
configured on the server for ready-to-go operation. Netra
administration software makes these servers exceptionally
simple to install, use and administer. For example,
installation of the Netra Internet Server usually takes less
than 30 minutes, compared to many hours or even days for
conventional LAN servers.

69.21 Sun & The Internet

As a long-time key player on the Internet, Sun Microsystems,
Inc., today reinforced its pivotal role with this worldwide
super-network of 20 million computer users by making a series
of announcements. Sun introduced a ground-breaking Internet
computer server, rolled out important new Internet security
software, unveiled a partnership with start-up Mosaic
Communications Corp. and announced that it is quadrupling its
worldwide network of databases, which has been one of the most
popular information sources for Internet users.

69.22 Sun Servers Rank Number One as Platform for UNIX database Software

For the third straight year, Sun Microsystems Computer Company
(SMCC) has extended its lead as the vendor of choice for users
of UNIX(R) relational database management systems. According to
findings recently released by International Data Corporation
(IDC), Sun(R) systems from SMCC accounted for 27.2 percent of
the market for UNIX database servers, far ahead of SMCC's
closest competitor, IBM, which had a 19.6 percent share. SMCC
experienced the strongest year-over-year growth of any vendor
in the database server market, growing nearly 58 percent from
1992 to 1993. The total market grew nearly 44 percent, IDC
reported.

69.23 Sun, Mosaic Communications to Collaborate on Internet Technologies

Sun Microsystems, Inc. and Mosaic Communications Corporation -
two of the premiere companies offering products and services
for the Internet - announced that they will collaborate on new
security technology aimed at accelerating electronic commerce
on the global network of 20 million computer users. The
companies will work together to propose technologies to various
standards bodies for such areas as authentication, security and
billing.

69.24 Major Expansion of Sun SITE project

Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) is implementing a
major expansion of its Sun SITE(TM) project, with new database
servers across the globe now on line and accessible free of
charge.

Launched in 1992, Sun SITE quickly gained a reputation as the
destination for cutting edge content. It is now one of the most
popular destinations on the Internet, providing up to 140,000
users a day with everything from public domain software to
cooking recipes and even amateur "garage band" recordings.

69.25 Sun Microsystems Puts the Rolling Stones on the Global Internet

"Home Page" Gives Fans Internet Access to Concert Information
Music, Videos and Memorabilia

Renowned for their cutting-edge music, the World's Greatest
Rock `n Roll Band is also pushing the envelope of high
technology with the advent of the Rolling Stones' "Voodoo
Lounge" CD and worldwide tour. With the help of Sun
Microsystems, Inc., Thinking Pictures has put the Rolling
Stones on-line, creating their own electronic "home page," a
user-friendly graphical interface for navigating information
across the global Internet.

69.26 Amdahl & Sun Deliver Enhancements for Solaris

Amdahl Corporation and Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC)
introduced the first product created as a result of the
Amdahl/Sun strategic alliance. The new product, A+Edition(TM)
for Solaris(R) Enterprise Server, is a system software
extension specifically designed to enhance throughput and
scalability on large multiprocessor SPARC(R) servers running
the Solaris 2.3 software environment.

69.27 SunSoft Unveils Vision for Solaris Users

SunSoft, Inc. announced its vision for a universal document
viewer for the Solaris(R) operating environment. This
next-generation of SunSoft's AnswerBook(TM) technology will,
for the first time, give Solaris users a single point of access
to information that they use every day, including
user-published documents and on-line information from Sun,
Solaris ISVs and OEMs. Solaris users will also be able to
browse and search Internet documents through the same window.
SunSoft expects to have a prototype of the new AnswerBook
technology in the fourth quarter of 1994.

Subject: SunFlash ftp archives
------------------------------

The SunFlash ftp archives are still being kept up-to-date. In fact, I
now keep each of the articles from the current year in subdirectories
as separate files. This makes it easy to ftp single articles.
If you know of any other ftp-mirror sites, please tell me of them and
I will update this list.

As some WWW browsers, such as Mosaic, talk the ftp protocol, you
can use ftp URL's to access these files. e.g.

Each month a number of different articles are requested - not just for
the current or previous volume. A quick count throught my log files
produced this summary:

Month #of different articles requested

January 228
February 223
March 372
April 410
May 477
June 1167 (Skewed because some people are making
copies of my archives the hard way :-)
It's really around 470.)
July 471 (In addition, more people are using ftp)
August 1320 (Skewed again. Really about 320)
September 430

This suggests that my back issues remain valuable and I should make it
easier to access them (e.g. with and email search capability).
I'm evaluating some public domain software that might help.
