Hi there I'm trying to install solaris 10 on sparc ultra 10 After boot cdrom the systems try to come up, and I receive a warning: setting ufs_ninode to max value <value>... I've been tasked with getting backups working with an older ExaByte EZ17 tape library with a single Mammoth 2 tape drive in it, connected to a SunBlade 2000 with a single 12000 MHz Sparcv9 CPU and 1 GB of memory. Installing Sol10 from DVD - USB drive as flash archive source?

OK. First I managed to format the removable USB drive as UFS. Then I could mount it as a UFS drive and copy my flash archive file onto it. I've got another machine that I want to install Solaris 10 and use this flash archive. So I boot from DVD and was hoping to be able to specify the USB drive as location of flash archive. Formatting USB disk as UFS

Got a 500Gb USB disk that I want to format as UFS (Cant use FAT32 because I want to put a large 18Gb file on there). Plugged in and did rmformat and it seems to be recognise. How do I format and mount as a filesystem?

Troubleshooting RARPD on Sol 10 Jumpstart server

Got it all set up. RARPD, BOOTPARAMS, TFTP services are all running. Client gives error 'Timeout - waiting for ARP/RARP packet' Did snoop on network interface on server:- BROADCAST -> (broadcast) RARP C Who is 8:0:20:9f:6e:be ? So I reckon it looks like RARPD is not replying. BTW - there is deffo an entry in /etc/ethers and /etc/hosts.... more »

Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet - jumpstart client

Got it working this far at the moment. After boot net - install this is what is happening.... Did a snoop on the server and it seems to be accepting an ARP request from the client but doing nothing with it. What could be causing this problem? Its sol 10 and rarp, tftpboot, services are active. /tftpboot exists.... more »

Not seeing interface up/down on console when conencting lan

Built a new solaris 10 laptop and had a few problems with the network card. Working now though because I have copied stuff over the lan to it. Problem is that when I connect/disconnect the lan cable I dont get a interface up/down message on the console. I'm sure I used to get this on previous laptops (sol 9)?... more »

Restored Backup now stuck at GRUB...

Anyone ever tried backing up the disk that Sol 10 is installed on using a whole disk backup package? I've tried doing it using Acronis backup which allows you to boot from CD, and backup to USB hard drive. Anyway, it seemed to work when I restored it. Only problem is when the machine now boots it seems to run some sort... more »
