Built a new solaris 10 laptop and had a few problems with the network
card. Working now though because I have copied stuff over the lan to
it.

Problem is that when I connect/disconnect the lan cable I dont get a
interface up/down message on the console. I'm sure I used to get this
on previous laptops (sol 9)?

I'm having problems using it as a js server and want to be sure the
interface is coming up at least...

tell if its physically connected or not.

Is that part of Solaris now or is this still the external
device driver? Are you using the same binary or a different
one? It depends, I believe, on how the device driver was
compiled and whether it's a GLD 2 or partially GLD3 device.

I remember there was some option you need to enable in Solaris 10
for Masayuki Murayama's device drivers.

Did you check to see if a CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable is connected to an
Ethernet jack on your computer? Do you have a "link light"? If so, did
you follow or trace that cable to find the other end and what it's
connected to? IF it's connected, the device to which it is connected
might respond to a ping if you can find the correct address. Perhaps
you should talk to your network manager?

He said in his original post that he was plugging and unplugging the cable,
so I suspect he knows whether or not the cable is plugged in at that
particular point in time.

He's looking for the system to report link up and down status, which
apparently it isn't.
