The total file size is 91 megs, using a bitrate of 256kps. I'm
informed that it looks quite clear on full screen.
I'll let you know when the CGE footage starts going online.
A very big thank you to Nick Humpries of the Your Sinclair Archive

Enjoy!

Downloading alright for me at the moment. Fingers crossed though beacuse
Azureus 2.2.0.0 has been causing kernel panics in kqueue on dual
processor Macs. Perhaps it is fixed with 10.3.6 - I await with
trepidation...
Possibly running out of connections to obdwww, maybe? Not sure, I just know I
have ten ports open for BitTorrent users and that I have two other streams
(the documentary chapters) available from the same server as well.
Keep retrying and you'll eventually get through.

Is the quality OK for everyone? I tried to aim for VCD dimensions and tried
different powers of two until I got a good bitrate on my Linux (Duron) box.
And apologies to Media Player users as MSMP doesn't handle DivX's too well, at
least not on my Win98se P3-500 box.
If most people are happy with it, I'll use it as a guideline for the CGExpo

It looks alright for me. I forget the history, is it from a VHS tape?
Looks pretty good I think.
If you're apologising to Windows Media Player users then it's fine for
me.
£40 for Bandersnatch in 1983! And all that hardware!

Excellent - I got it on DVD as a set of VOB files (>2Gb in total for 30
mins!), and that DVD came from Tayles via Rob.
>£40 for Bandersnatch in 1983! And all that hardware!
And with 20-30 items in the box! Gotta love Imagine sales rubbish... and the
whole idea of an album being released alongside! As if anyone would ever do
that these days...
Errr... ignore the OutRun 2 soundtrack CD...
And, of course, "Midlands - The British Bank".
Today HSBC...

Hmm, was that before or after Deus Ex Machina?

Top bit of retro telly there. I remember those tales of 17 year olds
getting hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds flogging bedroom

wrote a game and was cultivating a magnificent alcohol problem. But them
days were gone and that was the biggest obstacle.
I wanted to have a fag in the office with a punky haircut, drive a
cheesy sports car to a shite electronic soundtrack, have a bow tie and
be cynical, BS a bunch of punters about BS and run an business in a

Even luckier considering the bailiffs almost confiscated the BBC camera
equipment!
I have put it in my Emule 'shared folder'.
What a super trip back in time that was. Thankyou! I watched this back in
the day when I was
of similar age to Jonathan Smith. I distinctly remember the Pud-Pud bit. The
rest was all lost in the
midst of my mind so it was nice to see it again. Oh how I wanted to be
Jonathan back then. Alas, it wasn't meant to be...
Thanks again.

Certainly is an interesting insight into the companies way, way back in the
early 80's. Half an hour well spent watching that!

D'oh!
The joys of automatic filename completion in bash shell - you don't notice
little details like that until it's too late :)

You don't hear much about David Ward or Gary Bracey these days. They'd
probably be quite interesting to interview, eh, RG* peeps?
Call it wild speculation if you must, but I'd say it's quite likely you
are in fact *still* of similar age to Jonathan Smith.
haha quite right :) The things we write, eh?
Unless he's been travelling around the universe at close to the speed of

What? It could happen.

Yes, but only if somebody puts it up somewhere sensible (whatever
happened to FTP?) so I can actually get hold of the damn thing myself.
Oh, and you have to also admit that you're Andy Crane of Children's
BBC fame.

Soaks up bandwidth like there's no tomorrow if you're serving large
files by yourself.
Of course, there's nothing stopping anyone putting it up on a website or
FTP server once they've grabbed it via BitTorrent.

And for a limited period of time it can be sucked up here:

Nah - TBH I'm fed up with gross-out-style shows. Bring back the funny, I say.
Well in BitTorrent it doesnt take that long to download (and it has resume)
:P
Please post a torrent :) (if it's less that 4.7GB to place on a DVD)

Ere, I know a lot of work has been done by Rob and Nick in getting this
long lost documentary back into circulation, but I wouldn't mind a
little nod of recognition for being the bloke who actually scoured the
earth, harassed the BBC, called in favours and twiddled knobs to get a
copy of the programme. I don't want to end up as Midge Ure to Robert &
Nick's Bob Geldoff!
There I've said it.

Hi Russ,
Whilst I can't speak for Robert, I'm pretty sure I can safely say it was an
oversight on both our parts and I really should have posted an additional
follow-up singing your praises. For this I cannot apologise enough.
The only thing I can possibly think of saying in our defence is that CSS is
well-aware of your large part in the saga to get Commercial Breaks onto the
'net and so I guess the post was made in that context in that everyone here
knew what happened "Previously, On Comp.Sys.Sinclair..."
The documentary certainly went down well and I'm sure everyone here values
your substantial efforts in bringing this to us!
