Very strange as ZX81 never had a beep.

| Could you do a beep through the TV with appropriate software loops and
| abusing the video signal? I know the modulator was video-only, but
| using components for their intended function isn't the Sinclair way.
|
| Or failing that, what about beeping out through the tape port? I'd be
| surprised if nobody did that. I used to run my Speccy's sound through
| the tape port into the tape recorder, with no tape in it, to use as an
| amplifier loads of times. I'm sure the ZX81 could do sound in
| software, tho perhaps not with a stable display. The Speccy did
| exactly the same thing.
Yes, i have a short asm code to generate sounds on zx81's TV/save ULA
port...
I had to type-ins it ... from Ordi-5.

Dr. Beep:

I'm a journalist doing a feature article for Retrogaming Times Monthly about games released for the ZX81's 30th anniversary and am hoping I can obtain some or all of your 1K hires games for review. I'm happy to pay you directly for them since I still can't buy them from Cronosoft (or I'll certainly buy them later from there, given the cause the money goes to). But I'm coming up on my deadline pretty quick, so I'm hoping you're agreeable to working something out.

I'm keeping this short since I don't know if you'll see it in a timely manner. You can contact me directly at marksa...@yahoo.com and I'll offer more details if you'd like.

Thanks much.

Mark - will you be covering the ZXpand, and the AY sound interfaces too - there is even now the possibility of having up to 6 channels available using 2 AY interfaces together - have a listen to the following running on the ZX81: http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/Yerzmyey-Ursula.mp3

There are also quite a lot of the new software releases available for download on my website: http://www.rwapsoftware.co.uk/zx81/zx81_software.html
