Its the one which Bob Brencheley made with internal printer port and drive
etc.
If you recall, the original Sam did not have a printer port. I of course
still have at last one sam and lots of bits like a cased Sambus etc, but no
idea if it all still works!

You have to remember that there have been several incarnations of the
company making them. MGT, Sam Computers and a mixture of rights holders
after the two founders had to offload rights and stock etc for clearance of
the insolvency.

I only know about the Elite as a friend of mine was involved in some
machining and plastic part modifications for the Elite.

Not quite. Its the one with integral, non removeable drives and a printer
port. The extra hardware is internal, and the drives are only slightly
thinner than a standard floppy but not removable. You got one drive as
standard.

The old thin drives and the disc controller went obsolete and thus the
Elite ran two drives from one controller rather than having one each. The
printer port was a cut down comms interface.

The socket was mounted on the plastic case and the drives poked through some
modified disc opening covers.

I believe some altered Dos was also supplied as well.

I think most had the expanded ram too.

For the record the one in my bedroom is a Coupe, and its an early one with
the wiring on the pcb mods.
Remember I was one of the original investors.

The real differences between the SAM Coupe and the SAM elite is that
the elite has a built in printer port, and a new ROM with a 'West
Coast' copyright message rather than the older MGT or SAM Computers
Ltd message. There is no real difference at all - why it was given a
new name is a mystery :)

I did a small feature on the SAM elite in issue 16 of 'SAM Revival'
magazine a couple of years ago in response to a reader asking the
differences! (see my site at www.samcoupe.com for info on SAM Revival
magazine, and all the hardware and software I do for the SAM!).

SAM Revival has also had programming information and source code for
the SAM to cover the basics... disk, keyboard, graphics, dos,
Trinity, ... take a look at the info on the site about what's in the
back issues.

Regards,

Colin
