Dear css,
On my local Linux User group, somebody made this post about the
Spectrum in comparison with todays hardware/software.
Go to this page:
http://www.ilug-cal.info/pipermail/linux-discussion/2010-January/date.html
and checkout the thread "Most energy efficient Desktop PC" to read
what he said.

I invited him over here in the next message, so maybe we'll see him
here soon :)

Cheers!

"It started instantly" true...
But comparing the load and start times for openoffice to tasword II???
You're forgetting the 5 minutes it took to load from tape in the first place
I take it?

p.s. I would have replied sooner, but it took me 35 minutes to load
mozilla thunderbird, I got a tape loading error at the end of side 2 :)

OO.o hardly sets your hard drive alight when it's loading, but I'm
fairly sure it's quicker than that. Although sometimes I wonder...

Mind you, with a +D or something the Speccy was pretty nippy.

Hey, using modern Compact Flash devices for storage, loading any
program takes less than a second... I did a hw mod on my spectrum
clone, cost me under 1usd...
