Since some weeks I sometimes have trouble booting my Octane2 (dual
600MHz, 8GB, V10). It seems to startup but the monitor gets no signal
and then LED falls back to red. After unplugging the power cord
and replugging after some seconds the machine cames up as it should be.

In SYSLOG I found following 3 lines:

Apr 11 15:19:16 6B:luke flash: Log Init: 4/11/2008 13:16:44 GMT
Apr 11 15:19:16 6B:luke flash: 4/11/2008 13:16:44.000 GMT: XIO Slot
Reset Failure *FAILED*
Apr 11 15:19:16 6B:luke flash: 4/11/2008 13:16:44.103 GMT: CPU board NIC
diagnostic *FAILED*

Any idea?
I have a spare V6 but I do not have a second dual 600 CPU board....:-(

Because there are both XIO and NIC errors, I would have thought it
more likely be a frontplane or system board issue rather than the CPU
or GFX board, unfortunately I don't think running IDE diags will
pinpoint it much, you could try that and the Odyysey diags though.
Otherwise, do you have a spare Octane that you could put all the
boards into? Sorry this reply may be too late to be of use, but I'd
love to know what the fault was with the machine anyhow once you work
it out.

Hm, frontplane. Is a good idea to check. I have a complete spare Octane
(2x400) but my problem is that I am not allowed to fool around with heavy
machines for months because of health problems. Otherwise I had already
tried your suggestions. The intersting thing is that NIC problems also
came up in another mainboard and after a hard reset the machine booted
fine. Running 24/7 is no problem.

Seems it will take some time to find out the problem. Thanks
