I hate to say it but that's very expensive. You're asking US $2000 for
an Elan with NO monitor, when sellers in the US are offering the same
setup WITH a monitor for less than half your price, eg. the Indigo2 Elan
recently advertised for $895+shipping (same spec).
Why do people ask such high prices for 2nd-hand SGIs in Europe?
And what you're asking for the Extreme is not much less than the cost
of an entry VPC320! Even including import taxes and costs of shipping
(around $200), it'd be cheaper for someone in Germany to buy a 2nd-hand
I2 from the US.
The most overpriced systems at the moment (worldwide) seem to be Indys
and O2s. With the release of the VPCs, sellers should take a reality check.
VPC320 is as much as 10X faster for 3D gfx than O2.
Btw, exchange rates to/from many countries can be found at:

SGIs are usually corporations or universities which keep their boxes until they
fall apart. Contrary to the US, the universities here have an incredibly
complicated mechanism to sell things they don't need anymore or they want to
upgrade. Not like theses "salvage stores" or what it was called at Purdue
University (for example). And corporations just don't sell their stuff regularly
around here.Furthermore: Just look at the phone line pricing in the US (local
calls - server access, usually - for free/included in base bill) and then at the
phone prices here in europe. No one can favor computers and be off-line all day.
Another thing that's the mentality of the people. -sorry, I'm European myself,
but I know well both countries.
Another fun part: Have you ever had the luck of beein' a customer in the US, and
then experienced the arrogance of european cooperation's back home; yech..?
These are all small jigsaw peaces.

There is absolutely no marekt here in Germany for used Workstations. You see
one (most SUN, second SGI) every 5 days or something like that. I'd say his
price is at the low end, if I had the money, I would buy it in Germany :)
Buying a used SGI from the US is close to impossbile, e.g.:
$900 price
+ $200 shipping
+ $200 (I don't know exactly, could be much more ) customs duty and tax
+ money exchange with donations for the bank
= a lot more than 3500 DEM

Well, market there is. You wouldn't be able to sell at such a high price if
there wouldn't be a market.

No. It's just more risk. What to do if you send the money and don't receive
a thing? Sue someone in the US? From germany? Ha!

it's more like $1000 + $100 shipping + (price+shipping)*1.2 VAT and customs,
plus handling charges. At a price of $1000 you come out at about 2500 DEM.
