[This was originally posted in comp.sys.psion.misc but I realize it was
the wrong group.]
I know there has been many posts regarding this matter, but after hours
of reading and experimenting, I still haven't succeed in sending files
from my 5mx (actually MC218) to my notebook, an Acer Travelmate 803LCi.
Here are some facts:
1. I can send files from my digicam without problems.
2. When pointing my Psion to the notebook, I get the little IR icon in
the tray, stating that a connection is established.
3. Psion reports that another IR device is found, but after a few
seconds it gives up with an error.
4. With plBeam on my Psion I can *receive* files from my notebook!
5. Even when trying to send files with plBeam to the notebook, the
notebook apparently goes into "send mode" as it says it is ready to send
files.
6. I have tried IrComm2k, both 1.2.1 and 2.0.0b, but it defaults to
Com15 because it says the other com ports are in use. And even though I
can select com15 in PsiWin, it seems as if it doesn't really accept that
port. Because if I open the settings again, com15 is now unchecked!
Question: Can I check IrComm2k in another way, with an application that
accepts Com15?
7. After trying a few times with plBeam the IR process on the notebook
hangs. It's the process irftp.exe and I can't even kill the process with
SysInternals ProcessExplorer. Only rebooting cures it.
So here I am - lost!
Any hints will be much appreciated! And btw, has anybody succeded in
sending files from 5mx to a PC?

I think the problem was that my notebook's bluetooth system used
all the available com ports in the range that PsiWin can use. So I
disabled com4 and installed IrComm2k and made it use the now vacant com
port.
So far it seems to work as it should.
