VRAM size test?

I have a 7100 that was supposed to have 2 meg of VRAM installed by the
vendor when I purchased it. I can only get 256 colors on a Sony SE-20
monitor, rather thatn the thousands that 2 meg should support.
My question, is there a way to interrogate the machine with a software
command to see what VRAM is actually there?
I would like to check the installed VRAM without having to open the case
if possible. If the only way to check is to open the case, what should I
look for.
