I've got beau coups backups of my TX's address book and other
files, but the TX has gone missing and Palm Desktop seems mired
in some sort of security scheme where it's highly
device-specific.

I'm thinking of migrating my data to some other device, but can't
figure how to get to it without either a PalmPilot or the Palm
Desktop application.

So, bottom line, is there some third-party app that will read my
Address.dat and let me export it to, say, tab-delim'd text or
something like that?

I withdraw the question.

I was something around "users.dat".

When I bought a Handspring Treo 90 to replace my really old M500, I did
a hard reset on the Treo, plugged it into the computer using the cable
provided and pressed the "Synch" button, the computer vomited up all my
files from the M500 and loaded them into the Treo. It took less than a
minute. My computer had the old Palm software from the old M500.

You should be able to transfer to any Palm or Palm compatible device.

To transfer to an incompatible device or to "people readable" files, may
be possible but I can't guarantee it! Someone may have written a
program or programs to do that sort of tinkering but I have never
encountered such a program. OTOH, I haven't been looking. . . .
