Not so simple. First, they charge tax so you miss out on the standard tax free savings. Second, the shipping charge is mandatory overnight matching the competitor so you can add a typical $30.00. So much for the savings.

Well almost true. I just purchased a Palm IIIx from OfficeMax.com with their 155% price-matching policy against Shopping.com. They did charge me tax, BUT, they honored Shopping.com delivery price of $4.95 (a snippet of the email correspondence with the representative is below). So, I was still able to IIIx at a reasonable price (~$230), even with tax (CA).
> Their price: $ 265.95 > Their delivery: $ 4.95 > Their total price: $ 270.90 > > Our price: $ 369.99 > Our delivery: $ 0.00 > Our total price: $ 369.99 > > Difference $ 99.09 > 55%: $ 54.50 > 155%: $ 153.59 > > Price after 155% credit: $ 216.40
Anxiously awaiting my IIIx, which amazingly cost less than my Pilot Pro did two years ago...
I got the same response to a Palm IIIx price match, and I'm thinking about ordering it. It sounds like you paid about $14.00 tax - did OfficeMax charge you tax on their price ($369.99) or on the price match price ($216.40) or some other amount?
Thanks, Eric

They appear to charge TAX on the total amount which I don't think is legal... I had them price match a palm V with shopping.com and they charged tax on the 449.99 and then credit the difference to your credit card, so I basically would only save 10 dollars, and they are out of stock until June 2, 1999...which they do NOT tell you until after you place the order.
Another odd thing is, they quoted shopping.com's price as 349.99 when in fact it was 343.99...6 dollars is 6 dollars, right?
I ordered one from shopping.com with the 4.95 shipping, and received it within 3 working days! I am debating about the efig.com upgrade or mailing it back and getting a 4 meg IIIX...

I see that shopping.com has a %125 satisfaction garauntee! Im ording a PalmV right now. Even if I dont like it I can send it back and use the %25 towards a IIIx. The only thing is computers have to be returned in 7 days.
Just ordered the IIIx from Office Max. And I did the price match maneuver with theirs and shopping.com's price. They are slapping the tax on the discounted price. So it is $16.77 on the net of $216.40.
I am not sure of shopping.com's 125% policy. I think that it is applicable towards purchases of $100 or less. I could be wrong.

Yes, but tax should be charged only on the price paid (possibly including shipping, depending on lots of esoteric conditions).

Which is exactly what they do. They charge your card their price + tax and then rebate you the 155%. The key word is *rebate*. They are two, separate transactions - the charge and the rebate. This is the way one of their customer service department explained it to me anyway.
I can't complain - I got a PIIIx next day for $241, although if I had waited a few days I could have saved a few more dollars. Shopping.com's price was $267.95 when I purchased, but is now on their site for $259.95. Computers4sure.com has them for $249.99 and Buy.com is at $248.95. The problem with C4sure and Buy is that their next day shipping charge is fairly easy to obtain and runs ~$30, whereas no one seems to answer the phone at Shopping.com so OfiiceMax honors the $4.95 shiiping listed on the web page.
