Now that there are 50,000-plus Newtons out, and Apple has collected a
serious number of registration cards -- does anybody know how to get a copy
of the market demographics? Sort of seems like useful information prior to
considering application development.

This is the number that was mentioned in the first month or two,
but since then I've heard nothing about sales. Anyone have any more
recent stats?

I'm sure that that data isn't available to outside orgs, but I do know
Apple said when Newt was introed that the initial audience was classic
early adopters, for the most part gadget gurus and folks who had to have
the technology, e.g. developers, mobile users, execs, etc. Eventually, as
price drops, etc. it will become a more general use appliance, like
pagers and computers. I'd say that sounds fairly accurate, based upon
what I've heard.

I don't know where I read this, but someone did say the early adopters
were surprisingly varied in one respect: which, if any, computers they
already used. Apparently, the breakdown was something like 30% Mac,
40% Windows, 20% no computers, 10% other. I may have the Mac and Windows
numbers backwards, but the point is that the buyers are not just MacHeads,
and a sizeable number of the users don't regularly use any computer.

I saw the same thing, and, no, your Windows/Mac numbers aren't reversed. VERY
interesting, indeed. Especially since the Windows Connection Kit isn't even out
yet, is it? (Not that the Mac Connection Kit 1.0 is all that wonderful, but...)
