I would appreciate any feedback on experience with screen shields
(including comments on differences in friction and glare).

Is there more than one product available?

The *BEST* screen shield I have seen and used is home-made.
Unfortunately the materials are hard to come by for most.
What you do is take a piece of unexposed and developed film (the kind used
in the printing industry for making plates (yeah I know, hard to come by))
cut it to size (razor blade or exact knofe works best), tape around the edges
(dark tape works best as it doesn't stick out) and presto one clear shield.
Drawbacks you say?
welllll it does cut down on the contrast a little but there is no friction
against your stylus like most of the static clinging shields.

If you are interested in trying this but cant get any film E-mail me and we
can arange for you to get a piece for the grand old price of a SASE.

I am using a piece of regular old vinyl that I got from a fabric shop.  a
whole yard cost about 5 bucks and it works fine.

Cut to size and just stick on.  It holds by itself.  The pen drags for
just a bit, but you get used to it in no time.

I have had the same piece on my newt 120 since June with no problems.
There is a little wear mark where I used grafitti, but it even isn't a
problem.

Hi,
I used a cut piece of transparency for a while when I first got my
Newton and I thought it was good enough.  But then I tried Concept
Kitchen's WriteRight shields and I love them.  They are a big improvement.
The best thing is they don't interfere what so ever with viewing.

Subject: Screen Protection-WriteRights

April,

Thanks for the compliments!  We're glad you're pleased!

If anyone else is looking for a solution to  screen scratching, glare or
other screen problems, you should consider the WriteRight Screen
Enhancements from The Concept Kitchen.

Officially recommended by both Apple Newton and Sony Magic Link Technical
Support, the WriteRight has proven to be the solution of choice for
thousands of PDA users worldwide who no longer have to worry about
scratching their screens, struggling against screen glare or having to
deal with the unnatural feel of writing on a glass surface with a plastic
pen.

Unlike other screen protection devices, the WriteRight is completely
benign and cannot cause any harm to your screen.  The WriteRight installs
easily without any adhesives and without the need to apply undue pressure
to your PDA screen.  Removal is equally simple, as the WriteRight can
easily be removed simply by peeling it from the screen--returning your PDA
to its original state.

Normal pricing for the WriteRight 4-pack is $11.95, for the 8-pack is
$18.95 and for the 12-pack is $24.95 (plus $2.95 shipping/handling to all
US/Canadian addresses, $4.95 elsewhere).  However, we are currently
offering our 12-pack at a special rate of 10% off the normal $24.95 price,
or only $22.45.  We accept VISA/Mastercard, American Express, personal
checks and money orders.

For more information on the WriteRight, feel free to contact us at any of
the addresses below.  If you would like to place an order, simply fill out
the order information at the end of this message and return it to any of
our E-mail addresses below.

All our best,
