Camera not working
I have a Mac Book, OS 10.5, and have connected it to an Apple 23 inch display. The built in camera on the MacBook works with skype, but the camera on the display does not. All other functions are OK Can anyone tell me how to turn off the camera on the MacBook, and start the camera on the Apple display.... more »

Network Printing Issue
I've managed against the odds (I'm a self-confessed Luddite) to set up something resembling a network in my home office and am running an imac (with router attached by yellow ethernet cable and a macbook Pro which connects by Airport. My printer is connected to the imac by a usb cable and has no ethernet port/socket so i can't attach it to my router.... more »

Orwelian trends in OS-X
We all remember the "1984" ads for Macintosh... But today, I spotted a pretty scary message in the system.log.... Jan 5 05:35:16 velo SyncServer[44253]: Datamanager Vacuuming all the truth segments. Quick, backup the truth before your Mac will vacuum it away :-) :-) :-)

The Future of Brain-Controlled Devices
Darn, I am going to miss interesting articles like this in the future, because my limited finances required me to resign memberships in the ACM, IEEE, AAAI. ACM had this article recently, which among other things shows that those speech recognition apps we all find so "frustrating" might be totally obsolete in the future, because we will... more »

Heads up : Documentary on Apple
CNBC is airing tonight (and I assume repeated) a documentary on Apple: Welcome to Macintosh (2008) A history of Apple Inc. features interviews, innovations and the company's impact on culture. On eastern time: 21:30 to 23:00 Not sure when it will be rebroadcasted. I never watch CNBC, but I was flipping through the guide of programs and... more »

I'd like to kiss Snow Leopard
But she'd probably claw my face off. I've had nothing but troubles with my iMac since I bought it over a year and a half ago. Almost since it was new, I couldn't get any browser to work, using all normal funtions, on it. Safari mostly worked, but would bog down after a couple of hours, whether I was using it or not, and wouldn't... more »

Time Machine question
I asked this before, but now I have more information. iMac 2.66 GHz, 4GB Ram. I have a Western Digital 500GB external drive used by Time Machine. Recently, all of the sudden I will get the message that Time Machine can't backup because the disk appears to be read only. I can launch Disk Utility, run Verify Disk (repair disk... more »

Email
Hello folks and happy new year. I'm a long-time Eudora user. Suddenly I discover something I need that Eudora can't do so I wondered if it's time to switch to Mail. But, on even a superficial examination, Mail appears to be way short of a professional standard. Just one example ‹ Apple calls Mail's "search"... more »

The misconceptions about me
Many of you think I am a troll. Many think that I am Mark Conrad or Priam. But many of you have forgotten your history and cannot remember the troll of all trolls. Perhaps one of the resident trolls recruited me to help them in their failed troll activities. Or perhaps I am a innocent Mac user looking for answers just like the rest of you.... more »

Sinking the G5 line
Is it normal that a company as rich as Apple stops supporting the G series 6 months after the end of the extended guarantee while it has all the OS X code in its hands and all that is left to do is compile it for the PowerPC architecture? Pretty much all Linux distributions support Mac's PowerPC line. How... more »
