Odd behaviour of iPad and iMac

I have an iMac running OS 10.8.3 and an iPad running I.O.S. version
6.1.3.
I use the iPad only very occasionally for downloading e-mail. I
reserve that task for the iMac. I'm using IMAP mail administered by my Internet provider.

Storing FAX numbers in Print dialog

I often prepare documents I wish to fax in Microsoft Word. I have a Brother MFC.
To send a fax, I select print to bring up the Print dialog box. On Copies a& Pages, I select Send Fax. A grayed out window appears that looks designed to store names and numbers of destinations.

The other day, someone remarked that with the failure of Windows 8,
Apple lost an opportunity by not relaunching MAC vs PC ads to grab
people who need a new PC and don't want Windows 8.
In a soft market, being agressive can get you a bigger share of the
smaller pie.

phase, during which a window is displayed with the phrase "Preparing to
