I had to download the free version of Stuffit because I bought a piece
of software that comes in .sit files.

SmithMicro now owns the Stuffit brand. They immediately began spamming
me. After about the third day I clicked the "opt out" button.

The opt-out web page asks for one's first and last name and e-mail
address. It also _requires_ one to specify the format in which one
prefers to receive e-mails from SmithMicro: "No Preference," "HTML,"
"AOL," or "Plain Text."

Idiots.

Not only that, somehow they offer TuneRanger for sale, whereas it's
available for free trial elsewhere. (Acertant Technologies is labeled
developer) Moreover, there's no indication save peering at an image
illustration, that it's from the same company.

Ugh, as well.

I've been getting this for years. Once in a blue moon there's an offer
worth taking up, but MacZOT and MacUpdate daily specials are greater
value.
