Hello.

Is there a way to show ALL and access files in updated Mac OS X (10.5.8
and 10.8.3)'s Finder without going to Terminal (ls -all)? The reason is
why I need to recover older backup copies from Time Machine, but I
cannot figure out how to tell their Finders to show these .filenames
files in my home directories/folders.

Thank you in advance. :)

Get Tinkertool. It can tweak Finder so that it shows all hidden files.

While shell is probably the best way of accomplishing what you want
(see man ls), one can use Cocktail.app or Onyx.app to make files with
leading dots visible, as a Finder option. I'm sure there are others,
including a mystical command-line incantation, which will do the same.

Thanks. That worked although restarting Finder is annoying to
enable/disable that and I don't always want to see them. :(

Do these programs require Finder to restarted like Tinkertool which is
annoying?

Go to applications/utilities --> show-hide files.

I don't see a program named "Show-Hide Files" in Mac OS X's
Application's Utilities.

Tinkertool lets you add a "Quit" in the Finder menu. So this is really
simple to quit and restart.

Ups! I have it sooo long that I forgot where I got it. Thought it were
standard.

A "finder replacement" utility, such as Path Finder, will
do this for you and make it easy to reveal (and then
re-hide) normally "hidden" files.

The way most people deal with this conundrum is to *drum roll*... learn
and become familiar with the command line environment. ; )
