TextEdit locking up

Anyone know if there have been some recent changes to TextEdit?

I have seen some strange issues in which it actually partially locks up as I try to save something.

It won't let me click the "Save" button or the "Cancel" button. Nor will it permit me to modify the filename field.

Strangely though the language drop-down still functions. Of course, that is of little consolation.

I have seen occasions when accessing remote files (on my server) where
an application (not necessarily Textedit) is unable to save the document
because it no longer thinks it has write access to it.

Well, I don't know what the issue was with TextEdit, but it persisted in being ornery. I eventually replaced it with a program called Notepad from the Mac App Store.
